Bensalem Police on Tuesday issued a press release to make residents aware of a “growing trend” involving the thefts of high end performance vehicles.
Thieves are targeting Dodge Chargers and Challengers Honda CR-Vs, Accords, and Civics, police say, utilizing high tech methods that capture and amplify a key fob’s signal from inside a residence, allowing the vehicle to be unlocked and started without the actual key.
Residents who own push-start vehicles are encouraged to take additional precautions to help reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim. Vehicle owners should avoid leaving keys or key fobs near doors or windows and consider storing them in RFID/Faraday pouches designed to block wireless signals, like in the image pictured below.

Bensalem authorities also recommend parking vehicles inside garages whenever possible, utilizing visible anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks, activating vehicle tracking services, and considering aftermarket immobilizers or kill switches for added protection.
Taking multiple layers of security precautions can significantly reduce the chances of vehicle theft by implementing a few simple steps to secure your vehicle and remove valuables can significantly reduce your chances of becoming a victim, authorities said.
Bensalem Police encourage all residents to remain vigilant and look out for one another in the community. However, if you observe someone attempting to steal a vehicle, do not approach or engage with the subject(s). Call 911 immediately.
