Lower Makefield Township, home to the Pennsylvania State Monument Garden of Reflection 9/11 Memorial in Bucks County, will host two remembrance ceremonies on September 11, 2026, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
The morning ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will follow the timeline of the attacks with the tolling of a memorial bell at each significant event.
The ceremony will include the reading of the names of the 18 Bucks County residents and all Pennsylvanians who lost their lives on that day, along with remarks from community leaders.
Morning Ceremony Timeline
• 8:30 a.m. – Ceremony begins with the tolling of the bell nine times in honor of the nine
victims from Lower Makefield Township.
• 8:47 a.m. – Bell toll marking the impact of Flight 11 on the North Tower.
• 9:03 a.m. – Bell toll marking the impact of Flight 175 on the South Tower.
• 9:37 a.m. – Bell toll marking the attack on the Pentagon.
• 9:59 a.m. – Bell toll marking the collapse of the South Tower.
• 10:07 a.m. – Bell toll honoring the passengers and crew of Flight 93 in Shanksville,
Pennsylvania.
• 10:28 a.m. – Bell toll marking the collapse of the North Tower.
Following the ceremony, the Garden of Reflection will remain open for quiet reflection, and
visitors are invited to walk the memorial on self-guided tours.
Earlier this year the Board of Supervisors approved a second remembrance event from the township-appointed 9-11 25th Remembrance Committee. The recommendation comes after conflict with the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) falling on the same date this this year.
The evening remembrance ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. and conclude before sunset, offering the community an opportunity to honor, reflect, and unite in remembrance as we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to participate in a candle-lighting to pay tribute to the lives lost and share a quiet moment of reflection and hope.
