Happy Birthday, Bryce Harper!
The Phillies won Game 1 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) 5-3.
Definitely a good night for Harper, Phillies, and the fans.
Game 1 was the battle of the Zac(k)s. Zac Gallen was the starter for Arizona, and Zack Wheeler started for Phils’
From the start, Phillies bats were alive! Kyle Schwarber led off the bottom of the first inning hitting a home run. Harper batting 3rd dinger. The Phillies ended the first inning leading 2-0.
During the second inning, Nick Castellanos hit a home run off Gallen. The inning ended with the Phillies leading 3-0.
Harper jumped on the first pitch, hitting a rbi single, sending Trea Turner home in the third. The inning ended with the score 4-0.
The fifth inning, JT Realmuto hit an RBI single, making the score 5-0.
After putting down 15 straight batters, Wheeler seemed to be in trouble in the sixth inning. Allowing a single by Evan Longoria followed by Geraldo Perdomo, who hit a home run. Wheeler then got the next 3 outs, and the inning ended with a score of 5-2.
The Phillies went to the bullpen to start the seventh inning. The bullpen pitchers, Seranthony Dominguez, Jose Alvarado, and Craig Kimbrel, were nine outs away. A sacrifice fly from Alek Thomas made the score 5-3.
Just as much as the Phillies bats were alive at the beginning, they grew quiet as the game went on. Great defensive plays from both teams were on display in the late innings. Final score Phillies 5 Arizona 3.
Next up is Game 2. First pitch is at 8:07 p.m. Tue Aaron Nola gets the ball for the Phillies, and Merrill Kelly will Hill for the D-Backs.
