The Pennsylvania Department of Transpiration (PennDOT) has announced the appointment of Din Abazi, P.E. to the position of Senior Assistant District Executive (ADE) for Maintenance at Penn DOT’s Engineering District 6, which covers Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
“We are fortunate to have Din Abazi as our new Senior ADE for Maintenance to lead our programs and crews responsible for 3,553 miles of highway and 2,760 bridges in the Philadelphia region”, said District 6 Executive Lou Belmonte, P.E. “Din has been invaluable during his time in both the bridge and construction units, and his experience and thoughtful leadership will help us provide the public with a safe and effective transportation system each day.”
Abazi is responsible for PennDOT’s crews across the Philadelphia region who maintain the roadways and infrastructure through activities such as: surface treatment; shoulder cutting; pipe replacement and cleaning; mechanized patching; manual patching; joint and crack sealing; winter operations; vegetation management; line painting; bridge maintenance; signing; and stormwater management, officials said.
“It’s an honor to serve as Senior Assistant District Executive for Maintenance in District 6-0. We have a dedicated, hardworking team in place, and we will make every effort to keep our roadway network in the very best condition for our traveling public, said Abazi. “I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues, learning from them, and bringing my experience to this very important role.”
Abazi, a licensed professional engineer, certified bridge safety inspector, and graduate of Drexel University, has worked for PennDOT for over 18 years. Abazi progressed through the department and held various roles within the design and construction units, said officials in a press release.
In construction, he served as the Principal Assistant Construction Engineer for Philadelphia County. Notably, Abazi served as the construction engineer for the I-95 CAP section, which includes the construction of an asymmetrical steel tied arch. Din also served on the Schuylkill River Trail Extension team, constructing a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge over the Schuylkill River, a press releases says.
In the design unit, he served as a Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor of Bridge, Assistant District Bridge Engineer for Design, Assistant District Bridge Engineer for Inspection, and most recently District Bridge Engineer, which oversees all design and inspection activities in the southeastern region.
Through the years, he has participated and led many emergency responses, including flooding events, vehicle crashes; and bridge fires, including the recent Interstate 95 Cottman Avenue emergency project, says a press release.
