A traffic stop for a suspended registration turned into a foot chase and ended with a Burlington, NJ man being arrested and facing felony drug charges.

A Bristol Township police officer, on Veteran’s Highway, received a VIPR alert for a suspended registration at approximately 1:10 p.m., last Thursday. The officer’s computer inquiry, according to the affidavit, showed the registration belonged to a Toyota. The suspended registration was displayed on an Infinity.

The officer said he attempted to initiate a traffic stop  on northbound Veteran’s Highway and the Infinity turned into a business complex on the 1200 block.

As the Infinity approached the Nirvana Fitness Complex, the suspect, later identified as Nicholas Campbell, 43, allegedly fled on foot from the vehicle to the building. Police said, Campbell, while fleeing, held onto two bags, one tan and the other black.  The officer gave chase on foot and gave commands for Campbell to stop. Even though Campbell did not comply, he was apprehended and placed in the back of the patrol vehicle.

During a search for arrest, the officer found, in the bags that Campbell held, a bulk quantity of cocaine and methamphetamines pre-packaged for distribution and an assortment of medication. A black digital scale with residue and packaging was also recovered, according to the criminal complaint.

Campbell was arraigned on three felony counts of drug manufacture with intent to deliver, 2 lesser drug charges and a charge of eluding. His original bail of 10%/$300,000 was reduced on bail order to 10%/$100,000. He was unable to post bail and was remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility (BCCF), according to court documents.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16, 2024.
