Delaware Co Woman in Stolen Vehicle, Resists, Flees, Arrested with Drugs on Her, Police Say

Credit: Joe Nelson

A Delaware County woman reportedly driving a stolen vehicle, resisted police commands, which led officers to smash the driver side window, causing her to flee for a short hot pursuit which culminated in her pulling into an auto shop, where drugs were found when she was arrested.

The incident played out in the early morning hours on Tuesday when a patrolling officer was alerted to a stolen vehicle in the area by an artifice intelligence program the department now uses. The officer was on Otter Street and Veterans Highway when alerted and located a 2021 Volkswagen Jetta with Illinois tags that he ran through NCIC which confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen from the Upper Darby, PA area, according to court records.

The officer initiated a felony car stop in which the driver refused to obey several police commands to get out of the vehicle.  After commanding the woman suspect several more times, she still refused, and police approached the VW, smashing the drivers side window to gain entry. After pressing the gas, she fled but only for a short time, pulling into DS Auto Repair on Veterans Highway and being removed by police. She was quickly taken down to the ground, where she continued to resist by placing her hands under her body so they could not handcuff her, according to the probable cause.

After she was placed in the police vehicle, officers found a pipe with residue in it, baggies with a leafy substance suspected to be marijuana inside, and several small baggies containing a white substance, police said. The woman was identified as 39-year-old Nicole J. Warrington of Upper Darby. She was charged with felony counts of receiving stolen property, fleeing police, flight to avoid apprehension, and four additional related offenses.  On-Call Judge Terrence Hughes set bail at 10 percent of $75,000, which she was unable to provide, and was remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility.

Warrington is scheduled to appear for a court date on Dec 3.
