PennDOT announced milling and paving operations will close a lane on eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in the University City section of Philadelphia.
Weather permitting, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- From 8 p.m. Friday, August 22, to 5 a.m., Monday, August 25, a left lane and shoulder closure will be in place on eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between Walnut Street and the Grays Ferry/University Avenue exit (Exit 346B).
- From 11 p.m. Friday, August 22, to 5 a.m., Saturday, August 23, a left lane closure will be in place on westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the Schuylkill River and Walnut Street.
In addition, the South Street ramps to and from eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured while the left lane closure is in place on eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway). Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour routes to access South Street or eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
Drivers are advised that significant backups and delays will occur on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) approaching the work areas.
Motorists are encouraged to use I-676 and I-95, or I-476 and I-95 to avoid delays on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
Electronic message boards on I-76 and other regional transportation arteries will be utilized to alert motorists about the weekend lane closures.
