Bensalem Council Approves Gas Pumps at Giant Shopping Center



The Bensalem Council unanimously approved a Giant Company request to build eight gas pumps in the parking lot of their Street Road location last week.
Part of the project also includes a driveway to be constructed between shopping centers connecting it with Street Road Plaza allowing customers to easily move between the two busy retail centers, and so motorists can avoid going back out onto Street Rd.
A pedestrian crosswalk will also be developed to provide a walkway interconnection also between the two locations.
Proposed originally December ECHO Bensalem, LLC, the eght has pump plan needed variances approved by the zoning board for the project to move forward on the 10.5 acre site. The variances were approved at the May meeting, according to Bensalem officials
Council discussed allowing gas pumps as accessories which for future requests.
Council President Ed Kissleback and Councilman Jesse Sloan suggested amending the zoning code would be a better way to address future requests but voted for the variances.
Gas will be sold to all drivers, with those shopping at the Giant Center earning extra points on their gas purchases, Giant Co officials said at the meeting.
An expected start date for the gas pump installation has yet to be determined, Giant Company officials said last week.
