Bird Town Pennsylvania has awarded $1,000 mini-grants to 30 communities across the state for local bird conservation projects. Funded through a DCNR Environmental Stewardship grant, the program selected winning municipalities from among its 113 designated towns statewide.
Middletown Township is among six Bucks County awardees, alongside Buckingham, New Britain, Richland, and Warrington townships, and Chalfont Borough.
Across seven counties, funded projects range from native plant demonstration gardens and nesting boxes to educational bird blinds and interpretive signage. For example, key highlights include:
-
Middletown Township & Bucks County: Six local municipalities received grants to expand native habitats.
-
McCandless Township (Allegheny Co.): Hosting a four-part speaker series on local ecosystems.
-
Upper Merion Township (Montgomery Co.): Launching a live-streaming nest box camera for schools and the community.
-
Kennett Township (Chester Co.): Installing a native plant rain garden alongside local scouts, seniors, and students.
As a program of the Pennsylvania Audubon Council, Bird Town Pennsylvania partners with municipalities to educate and empower residents around habitat restoration. Furthermore, program leaders anticipate the DCNR partnership will yield lasting benefits for local ecosystems. Consequently, these projects will expand native plant habitats and engage thousands of residents statewide.
