Morrisville residents Helen Hlahol and Regina Wallace have both applied to fill the vacant council seat representing the first ward.

Council is expected to appoint one of the two candidates at tonight’s meeting.

Wallace, in a phone interview on Monday said she’s been closely watching council for about the last year now and decided the time was right to try and continue moving Morrisville forward she said.

“I want to serve my community. I want this great little town to move forward,” she said, “like Yardley and Bristol Borough have.”

Wallace born and raised in Morrisville, came back to the area after living in other areas of Bucks County said “because this has always been home.”

Wallace said she’s concerned about having taxes raised in light of flattening revenues for the municipality,

The work that’s been done to attract new businesses to the area should continue she said.

“We must find new ways to bring in additional revenues because costs are rising” in order for the borough maintain itself.

Wallace works for a computer company in Hamilton, New Jersey, during the day and has been a minority poll worker on election day for five cycles.

Wallace said she would be present at Tuesday nights council meeting to address any questions and speak during the public comment section of the meeting to explain in further detail why she is seeking to represent residents in the first ward.

Hlahol did not respond to requests for an interview.
