Heavy Delays Expected Again on Scudder Falls Bridge Next Week

Published

on

The Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge is scheduled to be reduced to a single travel lane in the NJ-bound direction during overnight and peak morning commuting hours Tuesday to Friday of next week with delays expected.

Motorists who use the bridge for daily job commutes should anticipate severe backups and travel delays between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on I-295 east bound  approaching the bridge from Bucks County, PA.

The bridge’s right NJ-bound lane will be closed from midnight to noon to allow for delivery and pouring of concrete onto the new parallel span that is now nearing completion immediately downstream.   The concrete pours – and corresponding single-lane travel restrictions – are expected to continue through June.

Job commuters are advised to consider the following options if they plan on using the bridge during morning peak travel periods Tuesday to Fridays:

  • Use earlier departures
  • Allow more time to reach destinations
  • Work from home
  • Postpone travel
  • Use an alternate route like the Trenton-Morrisville (Route 1) Toll Bridge

NOTE — The concrete pours and single-lane restrictions are weather sensitive and can be cancelled at short notice.  The pours start approximately at midnight and continue through morning daytime hours.  The pours are being conducted in a designed sequence as determined by the bridge’s corresponding steel structural supports.  The second bridge span is expected to open partially to vehicular traffic in late summer/early fall
