Suspect in Custody in Shooting of Police Chief
After about a 5 hour standoff police took a “known” suspect into custody Wednesday evening, after he shot Chief of Police, Joseph Kelly III twice.
At about 11 am police responded to an assist call from department of parole officials at the Yardley Commons apartment complex which Kelly responded to, officials said. Shortly thereafter the suspect who is known to local police shot the chief with a shotgun striking him twice. Once in the ear and once in the hand.
Mayor Chris Harding, after the incident said Kelly is expected to fully recover from his injuries. He thanked the rapid and intense response by departments adjacent to Yardley Borough.
The standoff ended around 4pm when according to sources on the scene police used flash bangs to clear the entrance way to the apartment the as yet identified suspect was in. Shortly thereafter the shooter was taken into custody.
Harding thanked everyone involved for thier support during the ordeal.
