Bensalem Police Detective Sergeant Glenn Vandegrift retired after 28 years of service with the department.
Throughout his career, he served as a SWAT Team member for over 10 years, as well as a firearms instructor. He also became the Department’s expert in crime scene processing, fingerprint analysis, blood spatter, and DNA processing, officials said.
In addition to his investigative expertise, Vandegrift played a key role in advancing the Department’s technology initiatives, including Drone Operations, Drone as First Responder, Bus Patrol, and the Real-Time Crime Center.
At the July Council, Chester County Chief of Detectives David Sassa honored Vandegrift for his contributions to Chester. Vandegrift worked with Sassa and police in Chester to set up an DNA database and lab for forensic investigations and data collection.
Vandegrift also served as the media relations /public information officer for the department.
“We thank Sergeant Vandegrift for his years of exceptional service and wish him the best in retirement,” public safety officials said.
