The Bristol Borough man accused of strangling his wife to death with several of his own ties will have his preliminary hearing held at the Justice Center in Doylestown in November.

Michael Myers, 60, of the 1300 block of Wood Street will make his first court appearance, represented by the Bucks County Defender’s Office, on Monday, November 2 at 9:30 a.m., according to publicly available records.

A reason for moving the hearing date is not currently available, as the venue change was discovered over the weekend.

District Judge David J. Chichilitti will preside over the hearing , which will take place at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown. Preliminary hearings at the Bristol Borough District Court are typically scheduled for Wednesdays.

Myers’ first scheduled preliminary hearing date was set for August 26. It was continued, which is typically requested by the defense, Manuel Gamiz Jr., Director of Communications, Bucks County District Attorney’s Office told Lower Bucks Source earlier this month.

Myers’s prelim date came and went last month without a new hearing scheduled until late last week.

Since the new court date and location move was discovered over the weekend the reasons for it are not clear.

There have been several instances in recent years security was a concern where preliminary hearings have been moved.

In July the Bucks County Commissioners approved funding for a security officer program, which will use armed security officers at five of the county’s 18 magisterial district courts. Bristol Borough District Court is not one of sites.

On Thursday, August 13,  Bristol Borough Police officers responded to the Wood St. home around 6:28 a.m., according to the probable cause, for a report of a possible deceased person. Upon arrival, officers encountered the victim’s son, who reported that he had found his 54-year-old mother (Dawn Myers) dead in a second-floor bedroom.

Responding officers conducted a sweep of the home and located Dawn Myers lying on the bedroom floor with multiple men’s neckties wrapped around her neck, police said in court records.

According to the criminal complaint, police noted security footage from the home showed no entry or exit between the evening of August 12 and 6:02 a.m. on August 13, when Myers was seen exiting the front door, locking it behind him, and entering a vehicle parked outside.

Myers, police said, was seen outside the home shortly after 6:00 a.m. by a witness;  however, the security did not register from any of the perimeter alarms. Police said the alarm system would have been turned off prior to Myers exiting the residence.

Myers was detained by police at the scene with visible injuries, including scratches and abrasions to his face, arms, and back, court records show.

Investigators did not indicate in court papers whether or not they were able to interview Myers. He was in police custody for about 19 hours before being formally charged with murder and related offenses

Prior to killing his wife, Myers checked in at a mental health facility reportedly experiencing  depressive thoughts related to taking his own life. He is a well known painter and stopped working recently, community sources said due to the mental health issue he was experiencing.  He left/was released and came home the night before the murder. The exact circumstances of where he went for treatment/evaluation remains unknown and whether or not it is directly related to the horror that occurred on the quiet, tree-lined street in Bristol Borough.
