Huseyin Gunaydin came to America with a dream. To one day own his business and he did so with buying one in New Jersey and opening the Golden Eagle Diner in Bristol Borough.
Gunaydin sold the eatery earlier this week saying it was time for him to retire.
I’m almost 75 now and I don’t have the energy left to do all the hard work needed said Gunaydin Wednesday.
He arrived in America, a Turkish immigrant in 1972, beginning his career in diners as a dishwasher. He then worked as a short-order cook, a baker, and a kitchen manager before buying a diner in South Jersey he later sold.
I’m almost 75 now and I don’t have the energy left to do all the hard work needed to run the dine said Gunaydin on Wednesday.
“It takes a lot of hard work and hours to run the diner and long hours” he said Wednesday.
The diner sits on the corner of Rt 13 and Bath Street went under a major renovation costing about $1.5 million adding an outdoor patio, a new facade, to make the diner more visually appealing, he said.
I really don’t think its necessary to do a story on my retirement, he added, but I do appreciate all the customers who have come in over the years.
New owner Fahari Ekiz will take over on Monday, Gunaydin said.
