Bristol Borough will swear in Officer in Charge Sgt Joe Moors as its next Chief of Police in a special ceremony at Borough Hall next Monday night, April 11 beginning at 7 pm, borough officials said at last nights Council meeting.

Moors was hired by the department in 1992, when Judge Frank W. Peranteau Sr. was the Chief of Police.

He was the first officer hired by Peranteau and now some 32 years later, he will swear in Moors chief.

Moors has declined to comment publicly about the hiring choosing to instead focus on work at hand for the department in the Officer in Charge he was appointed to last year.

Moors was called the “consummate street cop and street Sergeant” by now retired Chief of Police, Steve Henry.

The position opened up after Henry announced he was retiring last August.

Details about the contract offered by the borough to Moors and its length have not been released

The hiring also impacts the Police Department in two other ways.

Acting Sgt Chuck Palmer will officially take on that role plus will likely be elevated to the role of president for the department’s police union. Moors has been the president of the union for decades.

Moors who has already prided himself on his street work and connection to the community, has proven to be an effective administrator and negotiator, officials have said repeatedly.

Recently, the department’s taser contract was set to expire with its insurance lapsing which was discovered in the first days of serving as Officer in Charge. A new deal was worked hammered out, which included Detective William Davis scheduled to be trained as the department’s taser instructor so he could in turn train officers.

Borough officials called it a “good catch” by Moors.

The same has been said by many in the community about the borough hiring the veteran Sgt to be the next chief of police for Bristol Borough.

Congratulation and couldn’t be happier for Joe…I remember Joe from hospital security, and we used to talk about how he wanted to be a policeman…God bless you Joe, and you will be in my prayers!!!
