Updated: Police Say Person Struck and Killed on Rt 13 in Bristol Twp was Crossing in Non Pedestrian Area

Bristol Township Police say the person struck Friday night on Rt 13 was walking in an area that does not have a pedestrian crossing area.

The preliminary investigation shows that the pedestrian was crossing Bristol Pike -Rt 13- from the southbound lane into the northbound lane in an area that does not have a pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian was struck by an unknown vehicle which was traveling northbound Bristol Pike, said Lt Ralph Johnson Saturday afternoon,

The striking vehicle appeared to be a dark vehicle which was last seen traveling northbound on Bristol Pike. A short time after the accident, dispatch received a call from the operator of the striking vehicle. The operator was identified and the striking vehicle was towed for investigation, police said.

The victim was pronounced deceased by Levittown Fairless Hills Rescue Squad, Johnson said. The victims name was not released.

A person was struck by a vehicle and killed on Rt 13 in Bristol Township Friday night.

The incident occurred around 11:30 pm when a citizen called police dispatch to report seeing a body in the roadway on the 6900 block of Bristol Pike.

First responder arrived on scene a short time later locating the deceased person in the area off of Edgely Road and Rt 13.

Bristol Township Police were seen walking the roadway performing evidence collection in the area where the body was located.

Observers saw the Bucks County Coroner’s van on scene while fire police shut down the roadway.

The dangers of walking along the roadway at night have been well documented as county and state officials have been in discussions about potential remedies to improve pedestrian safety on Rt 13 in Bristol Township and Bristol Borough. Those discussions have been ongoing but no plans have been made public.

As of Saturday morning the identity and circumstances surrounding the roadway death were unclear.
