Incumbent Fitzpatrick and Challenger Ehasz to Debate Tuesday at BCCC

Published

on

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (R) and Democratic challenger Ashley Ehasz  will hold a debate Tuesday at Bucks County  Community College’s Bristol campus.

Both will have the opportunity to explain their political and policy stances to the public as each is vying  \for the congressional seat that covers all of Bucks County and a slice of Montgomery County in Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District.

The race, in comparison to other regional federal elections has remained off the mass media radar, despite the almost 50-50 split in voter registration numbers within the district, according to the most recent county voter registration information.

Fitzpatrick brands himself as moderate willing to work with Democrats on solutions, while voting with his party and or former President Donald Trump a majority of the time, according to 538.com

No matter, beating a Fitzpatrick hasn’t happened since 2007 in the now restructured congressional district despite the efforts of Democratic progressives who demonize the sitting congressman every chance the  get despite his votes to certify the 2020 Election and his Tweet following the January 6 attack on the capital .

It’s clear some registered Democrats buy into the Fitzpatrick brand of politics although his no vote to impeach Trump infuriated some

Ehasz since Roe V Wade was overturned has made women’s choice a major focal point at public events. Even holding a Pro choice forum shortly the Supreme Court decision in June. The biggest challenge perhaps for the Ehaz campaign effort, is name recognition and campaign funding.

Fitzpatrick is pro life and when the decision was made public, he urged empathy and a two sides solution.

At a recent Bristol area event, one long serving elected official said they wouldn’t recognize Ehasz if she was standing in front of them.

Bristol area voters have expressed the same sentiment during conversations with this publication about the upcoming election.

“I really don’t know anything about her” said a long time registered Bristol Democrat.

The other challenge is having campaign funds to spend for media buys and advertising. According to Federal Election Campaign filings, Ehasz had just barely $180,000 in cash on hand, to Fitzpatrick’s little more than $1.2 million in funds, records show.

William Pezza of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, as customary, will be Tuesday’s moderator.

“This will be the only congressional debate of this campaign. We’re expecting a large crowd and visitors are encouraged to arrive early to clear security. Numerous voters submitted questions for consideration and a synthesis of recurring themes will form the bulk of the questions.”
The League of Women Voters will be on hand to distribute requests for mail-in ballots before and after the debate, officials said.

“The college is honored to provide this service for the voters of Bucks county during a mid-term congressional election that may be the most consequential in recent history,” Pezza said.

Later that day, a debate between the candidates running for the United States Senate from Pennsylvania, Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz and Democrat Lt. Governor John Fetterman will be held beginning at 8 pm on WPHL-TV. The event is currently the only scheduled face-to-face meeting between the two candidate

The congressional debate will be carried live on the Pennsylvania Cable Network and live streamed also.

No signs, placards or campaign literature will be permitted in the building, officials said.
