For 20 years Bristol’s Selecto Supermarket has been serving the local community and now the family operated business is being sold to new owners, sources told Lower Bucks Source Tuesday.
News of the sale was first reported by the Bucks County Courier Times Monday
Manager Edwin Herrera said in the published report the paperwork has been finalized for the sale.
The new owners, Herrera said, have a similar background to the family operated business.
‘They are deeply tied to the Hispanic community and they’ll seek to do some minor renovations to the market and try out some new things, he said in the report.
The supermarket serves a large Latino community in the Bristol area, but a good number of its customer base comes from the Grundy Towers which houses seniors 59 and over.

Employees and staff will maintain their jobs, Herrera said, and he will assist with the transfer and remain Manager once that is complete.
Customers on Wednesday wondered why Electronic Benefit Transfer cards (EBT) were not being accepted for purchases. The new owner is currently going through the process to begin accepting the state food stamp payments, store management said in the report.
He did say, the new owners will be changing the name of the market but could not divulge that information or the name of the new owner as the financial process is still being completed.
Herrera said his father, two uncles, and brother-in-law, who own the own and operate the Bristol and Trenton Selecto locations said the sale had more to with the owners getting older and managing both markets was getting too much.
They wanted to cut back, take some time off. They are from the Dominican Republic and have been working since they arrived in this country during the 70’s, he said.
