Bristol Fire Companies Offering to Replace Old CO Alarms with New Ones

Bristol Borough Fire Companies offer replacement CO Alarms through Federal Grant

Bristol Borough Fire Companies are offering to replace old carbon monoxide (CO) detectors for residents, officials announced Monday, through a federal grant they received.

Bristol Borough Fire Chief Herb Slack said if residents have a Kidde CO alarm that was installed prior to 2013, chances are that the alarm has reached it end of life or will do so very soon.

Through a grant from the Federal Government replacement detectors are available through a CO Alarm Exchange Program

Many of the CO alarms were installed and provided by the Bristol Borough Fire Companies and now should be replaced, he said. The grant allows Bristol Fire Companies to offer free exchanges.

Residents can bring you old CO alarm and the mounting bracket to Bristol Fire Company Station 51 at Wood & Market Sts and you can exchange it for a new CO alarm.

The new CO alarms have a 10 year battery eliminating the need to replace the battery ever year, Slack said.

Slack said, to remove your old Kidde CO alarm, slide it up off the mounting bracket.  Loosen the screws for the mounting bracket just enough to slide the bracket up off the screws.  The new CO alarms will fit over the current positioning of the screws.

Bring the CO alarm and bracket to the fire station during the scheduled dates and times and your old CO detector will be exchanged for the new one.  You should have one CO alarm in the basement and one on each sleeping level.
