New Jersey Man Charged with Stealing 19 Fobs from Local Dealership

A New Jersey man was arrested for stealing 19 remote car starters from a local dealership.

Darren Katz, 56 of Old Bridge, New Jersey is charged with felony theft and receiving stolen property on Saturday accused of stealing key fobs from vehicles at Reedman Toll Chevrolet Showroom in Langhorne.

Middletown Township Police were dispatched to the East Lincoln Highway dealership this past Saturday.  Upon arrival a sales manager told police a white male wearing a medical mask entered the dealership and proceeded to remove keys fobs from vehicles inside the dealership, according to the criminal complaint.

Employees of the dealership pointed out the suspect to police who then located his vehicle parked behind the showroom in a parking lot, court records show.

From outside the vehicle, in plain view, a dealership employee pointed out a bag hanging from the gear shift of Katz’s Hyundai Santa Fe. The employee identified  a bar code specific to Chevrolet keys for the dealership.

Katz provided permission to authorities to enter his vehicle to recover the bag of keys, admitting to stealing them when prompted, court records show.

In all there were 19 fobs, police say, valued at approximately $4850.00, the criminal complaint says.

Katz was taken into custody, arraigned and bailed.

Katz is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 19.
