Bucks Announces 4th COVID-19 Case: “No Community Spread”

Submitted:

Bucks County’s fourth coronavirus  case was announced Sunday evening by county Health Director Dr. David Damsker.

An adult who had traveled to Spain recently and showed symptoms upon return has tested presumptively positive for COVID-19.

“This is our fourth case, and once again it is connected to out-of-state or out-of-country exposure,” Damsker said, “so again it is not a matter of community spread. We know that they didn’t get the virus in Bucks County.”

Damsker said the patient, as with the county’s first three cases, has experienced mild symptoms and is isolated and comfortable at home. The person had very few social contacts after arriving at an out-of-state airport, all of whom were quickly identified by the Bucks County Department of Health and are quarantined to their homes.

The test results came one day after Gov. Tom Wolf called for enhanced social distancing and business restrictions in Bucks County, and two days after the governor ordered public schools closed statewide.

“We are continuing to promote hand-washing, social distancing and other restrictions to help prevent or slow the spread of coronavirus here,” Damsker said.

Bucks County government offices will open on a regular schedule Monday, employees were told in a mass email distributed Sunday by Chief Operating Officer Margaret McKevitt. “Please know the commissioners are committed to keeping our workforce safe, while continuing to provide the outstanding level of service we deliver to our constituents,” the email said.

Guidelines for coronavirus-related absences and work-from-home procedures were distributed to county officials on Friday.

The Bucks County Justice Center will also be open, though no jury trials are scheduled. Judges of the Court of Common Pleas are expected to meet Monday morning to discuss future plans.

Over the weekend, county officials unveiled a new link on the county’s data portal to serve as a clearinghouse for public coronavirus information.

It can be accessed by clicking a link at the top of the county’s home page at www.buckscounty.org , or by clicking here.
