Allentown Man Charged with Stealing Cousins Corolla, Cops Say

Lower Makefield Township Police arrested and charged an Allentown, PA man with felony theft, receiving stolen property and related offenses last week for allegedly stealing his cousins vehicle.

Tyrone Bland, 44 of Allentown, Pennsylvania is accused of stealing a silver Toyota Corolla from a lot in Bethlehem, Pa in February, police said.

Lower Makefield Police on patrol stopped the Toyota for vehicle violations this past Tuesday  around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Dolington & Mt. Eyre Roads  court records show. Police noted the vehicle was traveling 30 mph in a 40 mph zone which led to PennDOT computer check, police said.

State motor vehicle records showed the license plate to be  “dead or in transit” and assigned to a Chrysler out of Allentown, according to the criminal complaint.

Bland told police the vehicle was his cousins and he was bringing it back to the Lehigh County area from Morrisville and the dead license plate was put on the Corolla by a friend so he could bring it back to Allentown.

Police wrote in court documents, Bland told them several varying stories as to his “origin” leading to further investigative work by authorities.

Bland was then  asked to contact the cousin in question, the registered owner of the vehicle to ensure he had owpermission to operate it, court records show.

The owner, according to the criminal complaint, told police, on the phone, at the scene, and again at police headquarters that Bland had stolen the vehicle from a “lot” in February when he was supposed to park at a Bethlehem address.

The vehicle owner told police he wanted to file a criminal complaint and Bland was taken into custody and charged with for stealing the motor vehicle.

Bland was jailed on 1o percent of $40,000 originally which was changed at a bail reduction hearing Friday to an unsecured amount. He is scheduled to appear in Morrisville District Court on May 6, to answer to the charges.
