Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey (D) announced Wednesday just over $170 million dollars in federal funding is coming to the commonwealth, with grants totaling over 2.67 million coming in to Bucks County.
The funding, part of a block from Community Development and other U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs comes as a result of the latest coronavirus relief legislation.
“I was proud to advocate for Pennsylvania to receive necessary funding to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges it poses for our families and communities. The Commonwealth will receive $170.65 million in new Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and other HUD programs to help provide shelter to homeless individuals, increase affordable housing options, develop infrastructure and maintain crucial public services, among other uses” Casey said in a press release.
Locally grants will go to the following:
Bucks County- $1,914,966.00
Bensalem Township -$320,411.00
Bristol Township – $374,312.00
CDBG plays an instrumental role in advancing locally driven projects that create jobs and contribute to economic growth, and the funding is as important as ever as our Nation battles this pandemic, Casey said.
CDBG provides annual grants to states and localities to invest billions of federal dollars in communities across the country. The program has helped provide economic and housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income Americans for more than 40 years. This initial funding will be provided to jurisdictions which received CDBG for the fiscal year 2020. Additional grants through CDBG are forthcoming. In addition to CDBG, Pennsylvania received funding through the Emergency Solutions Block Grant and the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS program.
