U.S. Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1) announced he secured $750,000 in funding for the Bucks County Sheriff Criminal DNA Database.
The funding, for the Bucks County Sheriff’s Criminal DNA Database project, will support the acquisition of technology that allows a cheek swab to be run through a small, desktop-size machine, producing DNA results in as little as 90 minutes, said Fitzpatrick.
Plans for implementing a county-wide Rapid DNA Program, and the acquisition of two additional technological instruments will help law enforcement complete this goal. Once this database is established, local police departments within Bucks County will be able to access a broader database of DNA to identify criminals that move from town-to-town, explained Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick secured funding of $53.2 million for 36 projects, which fueled the $750,000 for the Bucks County Sheriff Criminal DNA Database and also $900,000 for the Bucks County Department of Corrections for their innovative Outmate Program.
The funding of these projects will directly benefit First District constituents, Fitzpatrick said.
