A Camden, New Jersey woman sits in Bucks County Correctional awaiting her fate on charges of causing a fatal DUI accident while driving the “wrong way” on I-95 in April killing three people.
Priscilla Cortez, 33 told State Police that she had “a lot” to drink prior to the accident in Bensalem in April, according to court documents.
State police said Cortez, caused the crash on northbound i-95 around 1:40 a.m on April 1 as she drove her Toyota Sienna southbound in the northbound lane close to mile marker 33 when she struck the Chrysler 300 that was crushed by the impact on its front end.
Police said there were two men sitting in the front of the vehicle and one woman sitting in the back. Two of the victims have yet to be identified. The three were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The female victim was identified by friends and family shortly after the fatal accident in social media posts grieving their loss.
Cortez was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital for treatment and subsequently consented to a blood alcohol test admitting she had been drinking the night before, according to court records.
Police allege Cortez’s eyes were bloodshot with the odor of alcohol coming from her.
Cortez was charged on April 24 and arraigned May 19, sent to jail in lieu of 10% of $375,000 bail on three counts of vehicular homicide, homicide by vehicle while DUI, misdemeanor DUI and related offenses.
She is currently scheduled for a June 3 preliminary hearing in front of District Justice Michael Gallagher.
