A Bristol event that for many symbolizes the end of Fall and the transitioning to the holiday season was cancelled by organizers in an announcement this weekend
Historic Bristol Day 2020 committee co-chairs Nick Rizzo and Mary Gesualdi shared the committees decision on the events Facebook page saying the cancellation is due to concerns about potential spreading of COVID-19 at the all day street fair.
They did say, the committee is considering “a scaled-down virtual celebration” wth the purpose of keeping this annual event in everyone’s minds, and we certainly expect to hold 44th Historic Bristol Day on Saturday, October 16, 2021.
The annual street fair, in its 43rd year of existence, organizers said, has only been cancelled twice in the past.
Thousands flood the borough for the event from all over the region for its wide selection of vendors, tasty eats, and to spend a day out with friends and family.
News of the cancellation led to questions from Bristol residents as to why a protest march could take place, but this event is being cancelled.
Organizers in response said the decision to cancel Historic Bristol Day was that of committees alone.
“This was an organization decision to cancel and not the borough’s” said Rizzo.
“We realize that this pandemic has had a severe negative impact on all elements of society. It is our fervent hope that everyone will recover nicely. We are very grateful for your past support of Historic Bristol Day and hope that, when 2021 rolls around, you will be In a position to support our endeavors once again,” said organizers.
