PennDOT announced that they have awarded the contract to begin replacing the Brownsville Road bridge over Neshaminy Creek.
Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor will replace the existing 68-year-old bridge. The new structure will be 24 feet longer and 9.875 feet wider than the existing bridge.
The approach roadways will be reconstructed to raise the vertical alignment over Neshaminy Creek to provide an adequate waterway opening and to slightly improve the existing sight distance on both approaches to the bridge. In addition, the new structure’s design allows for one less pier than the existing structure to improve the flow under the bridge.
Other construction includes widening the shoulders, improving stormwater management, resurfacing the approach roadway, and installing partially grouted riprap for scour protection at the piers and abutments.
Traffic will be maintained using a one-lane alternating pattern with temporary traffic signals for the approximately 6,991 motorists who travel the road, daily. Construction is expected to begin this winter and finish in fall 2027.
