A Newark, New Jersey man on the state’s sex offender list was arrested and jailed Thursday accused of taking a 10-year-old Morrisville Borough girls hand into his pants forcing it on to his penis last September.
Morrisville Borough Police, in October, met with the victim and her mother at police headquarters. The child told Officer Amanda DeLuca, on September 9, Derrick Wyche, 57, Newark took her hand and placed it inside his pants/underwear, the probable cause says.
Wyche had left his cellphone at a venue of a family event that evening and was unable to retrieve it because it had closed for the evening. The mother of the victim told Wyche he could stay the night so he could easily retrieve his cell phone the following morning, police said.
In November, a forensic interview was conducted at the Bucks County Children’s Advocacy Center in which the child disclosed the incident happened on the couch in the basement where she was laying down trying to fall asleep. Wyche sat down on the couch next to her and put a blanket on top of himself. The child victim told investigators he took her hand, placed it in his pants on his penis and that he tried to make her grab and squeeze it and it felt sticky. The child victim told investigators, Wyche was making noises and breathing heavily. Wyche pushed her hand away when he heard someone coming down the stairs to the basement, police said in the criminal complaint.
With help from the victim, additional investigative steps were taken to verify Wyche did in fact initiate the indecent contact the victim had with his penis, written by DeLuca.
New Jersey court records show, police said, Wyche is a registered sex offender. He was detained by New Jersey authorities and booked into Essex County jail on December 11 on a fugitive from justice warrant.
Wyche was preliminary arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Corryn L. Kronnagel on Thursday, December 19 on single felony counts of indecent assault, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor-sexual offenses; setting bail at 10 percent of $250,000.00 and remanding him to Bucks County Correctional Facility as he was unable to post bail.
Editors Note: There is no mention of whether or not the child’s family is aware of Wyche’s previous sex crime conviction in the probable cause affidavit or a characterization of the exact nature their relationship to him.
