Bucks Low Daily COVID-19 Case Numbers Continue as Green Nears?

Bucks County’s low incidence of COVID-19 infections continued today as 11 new positive cases were announced, along with six delayed-report cases that no longer are considered infectious as going green gets closer.

Two deaths of infected residents also were reported: a 102-year-old woman who died in late April and a 90-year-old woman who died last week. Both were residents of long-term care facilities and had underlying health conditions.

Of the 17 cases announced today, eight were spread through household contacts, three were spread in healthcare settings, three were attributed to pure community spread, one was spread at a workplace and two were unable to be interviewed immediately.

The continuing trend bodes well for the county as it expects to hear the magic words “Bucks County can now move into the green phase” on Friday, to take effect as of June 26 from Governor Tom Wolf.

County and state officials have said in recent days they’ve been told as much from the Wolf administration officials.

Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine told reporters Wednesday’that counties in the yellow whose case numbers continued to remain flat or trending downward can expect good news come Friday.

Bucks County commissioners voted to extend the county’s Declaration of Disaster Emergency through July 2 at their meeting this morning . The declaration affects only county operations; the shutdown of businesses and setting of red, yellow and green zones related to the coronavirus is set by Gov. Tom Wolf.

Currently 80 COVID-19 patients remain hospitalized, 15 of whom are in critical condition and on ventilators officials said in a release Wednesday evening.

Bucks County has now had 5,166 total positive cases, 496 deaths attributed to coronavirus – 399 of them long-term care residents – and 2,510 patients are confirmed to have recovered.

Still Winter: NWS Issues Tuesday Morning Winter Weather Advisory

March “comes in as lion” to the Lower Bucks area as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather advisory for Tuesday morning forecasting a mixed precipitation event making for possibly slippery road conditions.

The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3.

NWS says total snow accumulations less than one inch and ice accumulations around a light glaze in portions of southeast Pennsylvania and central, northern, and northwest New Jersey.

The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning commute, officials say, and motorists should plan on slippery road conditions. Motorists are reminded to slow down and use caution while traveling.

Bucks Issues “Code Blue” Until March 3rd Due to Forecasted Bitter Cold

Bucks County has issued a “Code Blue” declaration as bitter cold is set to return for the start of March.

Shelters in Upper, Central and Lower Bucks will be in operation nightly Sunday through Tuesday morning.

The Upper and Lower Bucks shelters will open at 8:30 p.m. The Central Bucks shelter opens at 7:30 p.m.

The county issues a “Code Blue” declaration when temperatures are forecast to drop below 20 degrees for two or more consecutive days. A “Code Blue” may be called amid higher temperatures, as consideration is also given to wind chill, precipitation and other circumstances.
