Levittown Man Tells Police He Accidentally Fired Gunshot into Apt Across the Hall, After Surrendering Sunday Night

Submitted: Falls Twp Police

The Levittown man who set off a 2 1/2 hour standoff, at Pennsbury Wood Apartments in Falls Township late Sunday night told police he accidentally discharged his gun while cleaning it that left a bullet hole in an apartment door across the hall.

On-call District Judge Charles D. Jonas arraigned Munajj R. Booker, 29, of Levittown at 4 a.m. with one felony count of discharging a weapon into an occupied structure and one misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment, setting bail at 10 percent of $75,000.00 which he was unable to post and was subsequently remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility.

According to the probable cause, around 6: 30 p.m. an unidentified neighbor reported hearing a gunshot which led him into the common-area vestibule of the apartment complex. He told police he observed wood chips on the ground next to the door of apartment #D-10. He then looked at the door to apartment #D-10 and noticed a gunshot exit hole through the door, coming from the interior of the apartment. The complainant stated that he then observed a bullet entrance hole in the wall of the room directly across from apartment #D-10, which is apartment #D-11. Nobody was present inside apartment #D-11 when this incident occurred.

The Bucks County South SWAT Team was activated, making contact with Booker at roughly 8:49 p.m. Booker refused to exit the apartment for about two hours.

Booker was provided with his Miranda Warning while in custody and agreed to speak with investigators. Booker said he accidentally discharged one of his firearms while cleaning it.

As previously reported, the standoff began, as reported Sunday night, shortly after “shots fired” reports came into Lower Bucks Source at approximately 8:40 p.m. Falls Township Police minutes later issued a “Shelter in Place” alert for the apartment complex and adjacent areas. Apartment complex residents and visitors were redirected by first responders away from the apartment complex area. The area was cordoned off to public access as tactical officers from the South Central Bucks County Emergency Response Team geared up at strategic locations around the complex.

One local was seen placed in handcuffs by police, because they were refusing to obey directives to  leave the area immediately. The individual was walked  to the opposite side of New Falls Road and released.

“We have a subject who is believed to have fired a handgun from within an apartment, no one was injured, we are attempting to negotiate his exting the apartment,” said Lieutenant Christopher Clark, at just after 9:30 p.m. in response to a request for comment.

For the next two hours, authorities attempted to negotiate a safe ending to the standoff. At one point, blasting emergency services sirens in hopes the wall of blaring noise would force Booker out.

Drones filled the skies above the apartment complex, the whirling and buzzing hum penetrated the silence on Vermillion Drive which also alerted SERT team personnel of onlookers closeby, with one team member coming out the darkness to direct the onlookers to another area for safety purposes.

At approximately 11:35 p.m. the engine revving of law enforcement personnel vehicles at Falls Township District Court -which was used as a staging area- and in the apartment complex parking lots could be heard starting up.

Falls Twp. Police put out a brief statement saying Booker surrendered to authorities as a result of successful negotiations, with no one injured, and the shelter in place was lifted.
