The Bristol man killed Sunday morning on a motorcycle ride, accompanied by his son and fellow riders, was identified as John Sweeney by family members.
Sweeney’s son, Colin, who is a volunteer Bensalem Township Volunteer Firefighter-station 44-88 confirmed his father’s passing a short while ago on his Metapage.
“It’s so hard to make this post by my father John Sweeney passed away this morning it’s so hard I can’t believe this happened I still cannot believe it true it hurts me so much I love you DAD.” the young man said.
The circumstances surrounding the accident have yet to be clarified or commented on by investigators.
What is known so far is just after 10 am on I-476 northbound – mile marker 67.1. a motorist driving the wrong way slammed into Sweeney. There remain unconfirmed reports of one rider injured in the crash and possibly others.
Lower Bucks Source is working to unearthing the details of the fatal accident and the reason (s) a driver was heading into traffic as opposed to driving adjacent to it.

Tragedy has struck the Lower Bucks County “Riders” community Sunday morning.
A 50-year-old Bristol man on a Sunday morning ride with his son and other motorcycle enthusiasts was struck and killed on I 476 Turnpike in Lehigh County by a motorist driving the wrong way
Officials told Lower Bucks Source, the crash occurred just after 10 a.m. this morning as a motorist was driving the wrong way on I-476 northbound – mile marker 67.1.
It didn’t take long for the man’s passing to circulate among the vibrant and active motorcyclist communities and socials in Lower Bucks County.
Tipsters revealed the victim’s name to Lower Bucks Source, however we’re holding it back because a source close to the victim’s family said there were still people to notify about the tragic accident.
He was an industrial mechanic. We worked together for several years. Our sons graduated together. He was a big goofball who was always fun to be around. He loved his son’s, his Harley which he had just recently had redone. And he was an avid pool player. He was also a former tow truck driver for Rob’s automotive, a friend of the victim said.
Communications to the Pennsylvania State Police were not immediately returned early Sunday afternoon.
