Falls OKs 2 Industrial Business Expansions

Credit: Submitted

The Falls Township Supervisors greenlighted two industrial project expansions for existing township businesses during Wednesday’s board meeting.

With an eye on creating new jobs, the board unanimously granted preliminary and final land development approval to Metals USA Plates and Shapes, Inc. to construct a 70,390-square-foot building for steel storage, as well as a 31,500-square-foot covered storage area on an 18.7-acre tract. The additions at the Cabot Boulevard East business translate to hiring eight to 10 new employees, attorney Michael Meginniss told the board.

“It’s a successful business located here in Falls Township,” Meginniss said. “It’s outgrown its existing structure over the last five to seven years.” Meginniss added, “It’s our intent to continue to grow in Falls Township.”

Supervisors Chairman Jeff Dence expressed excitement at the new additions.

“You’re expanding in Falls Township,” Dence said. “That makes us happy.”

The board also granted unanimous preliminary and final land development approval to another industrial business, Thomas Earle, which is located at 14 W. Steel Road. The business is transitioning from an asphalt operation to warehouse facilities. As part of the change, a 55,800- square-foot warehouse and a 272,300-square-foot warehouse would be constructed on the roughly 37-acre property.

Meginniss, who represented this developer as well, said the warehouses would be “state-of- the-art, modern facilities.”
“That’s an improvement for this property and a very good use and a consistent use along Steel Road,” he said.

Given the size of the warehouses being constructed at the Keystone Trade Center – some more than 1 million square feet in size – Dence said “there probably is a demand for smaller warehouses.”
