The Bristol Borough School District announced Sunday two confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In a letter sent to parents from Superintendent if Schools, Dr Rose Minniti she said school district employee tested positive on Saturday, after taking a second test due to an “abundance of caution.” The employee is under the care of a doctor and is said to be only experiencing “mild symptoms” Minniti said .

The second positive test is from a high school student who was notified Sunday of their positive test officials say.

Minniti said in her letter to parents, that the employee was last in school district facilities on October 20 having had “…no significant contact with students and staff  and was wearing  personal protective equipment while working district facilities. Students and staff who had “direct contact” have been notified by district officials and are following the guidance of county health officials.

In the case of the student, district officials said they have “made direct contact with the families of students who may have come in close contact inside or outside of the school with the student who tested positive.

The School District reopened schools for in person instruction on October 13.

Minniti encourages students and families to regularly check for symptoms of COVID-19 – fever over 100 degrees, cough, shortness of breath, headaches, body aches, etc- and to stay at home if experiencing these symptoms and consider contacting  medical professionals for the safety of school district community.

The School District said facilities were sanitized throughout several times throughout each day last week and again every evening. The classroom in which the positive testing student was in will be deep cleaned also, officials said.
