Bristol Mom Involved in Accident with Son, Waives Preliminary Hearing

The Bristol  Township woman charged for drug related offenses months after she and her son were struck on Bristol Pike in Bristol Borough waived her right for a preliminary hearing in Bristol Borough District Court Wednesday.

Kelly Ann Lewis, 38 appeared before District Judge Frank W. Peranteau Sr without legal representation

Peranteau, as is customary, queried Lewis about lacking an attorney to represent her legal interests at the hearing.

Lewis said she said she’s been very involved with treatment efforts, later agreeing to waive her right to be represented Wednesday.

She was charged last year with intent to possess a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to the after accident investigation by police.

A Jefferson Torresdale Hospital Physician supervising her treatment told police suspected heroin found in her bra.

Additionally, police conducted a search of her belongings finding traces of fentanyl, heroin,and methamphetamine, court records show.

She was formally arraigned yesterday with Peranteau setting bail at 10 percent of $1000.00 unsecured.

Brian Carter the man who struck Lewis and her infant son while he was in a stroller was charged with two DUI related offenses in December of 2021 is scheduled for trial in the Court of Common Pleas on May 11.

Lewis’ next court date, also in Doylestown is scheduled for May 26.

At last check, Lewis’ son Chris was recovering quite nicely from the injuries he sustained in the accident last summer.
