Third District Firefighter Succumbs to Injuries Suffered at Croydon Arson in Line of Duty Death

The first responder community is grieving the loss of a volunteer firefighter with decades of service serving his community who was injured at an intentionally set fire in the Croydon section of Bristol Township.

Ed Margavich a  lifetime member of the Third District Fire Company who was injured at a Croydon fire that officials determined as arson passed away early Friday evening, said Fire Chief Howard McGoldrick .

“It is with profound sadness that the 3DVFC announces the Line of Duty Death of Life member, Past Chief and Fire Police Captain, Ed Margavich, who, today, succumbed to his injuries sustained during the performance of his duties while operating on Box 11-36 on August 8th in Croydon,” McGoldrick said

Margavich, served the fire company for 65 years, officials said.

The fire company’s “end of watch ” signal was made around 9 p.m. which is a long standing tradition in the first responder community.

“Ed …was known for his kindness, wisdom, and the infectious laughter that brightened our meetings. His spirit will be missed by all.”

A memorial has been placed in front of Station 14 in honor of Chief Margavich, and may be visited by the community at any time,  McGoldrick said.

Fire officials said details for the fallen first responder’s services are likely to occur early next week as details for in the line of duty death are being worked on by fire company officials.

No one has been charged for the arson as the investigation remains active and ongoing officials said Friday night.
