Levittown “Shelter in Place” Ends Safely with Suspect Surrendering

A Bristol Township man surrendered to the Bucks County Major Incident Team Wednesday afternoon, after about a 2 hour  standoff.

Beginning at 10:30 am according to residents, police began evacuating residences. At about 11:20 a shelter in place alert  went out to residents Kenwood Drive South in Levitttown. Shortly thereafter, law enforcement  swarmed the area, staging in the Walmart Parking lot in the Levittown Town Center shopping area.

Police quickly blocked off entrance and egress from the residential tree lined street, as the MIRT team dressed in the Walmart parking area, near the garden center.

MIRT team members drove a armored vehicle, down the block and to the front of the home, and according to witnesses, began communicating with the armed man. Not too long after that, maybe 20 minutes or so, the suspect came out his home and surrendered peacefully to police.

He was frisked and then placed into a Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad Vehicle for a medical evaluation sources said.

Bristol Township Police obtained a search warrant, sources said to search for guns,  while a Animal Control staff member could be seen removing a dog from the residence.

A source on the scene said the man was in the midst of a mental health crisis and was planning to harm himself, but a concerned citizen called police.

As of 1:50 p.m no injuries were reported and one man has been taken in for a medical evaluation, law enforcement sources said.
