A motorist whose vehicle was experiencing mechanical difficulties on Rt 1 in Bensalem was fatally struck while outside his vehicle and died Tuesday morning.
Julio Ricardo Munoz, 45, of Philadelphia, PA. sustained fatal injuries while outside of his vehicle. The Honda he was driving was also occupied by a front seat passenger. The passenger was transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital for non- life threatening injuries, Bensalem authorities said.,
At approximately 5:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Bensalem Township Police along with Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department and EMS personnel, responded to Southbound Rt. 1 at Rockhill Dr. for a report of a three-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers located a 2007 Honda Fit in the Southbound lanes of Rt.1 police said in a press release.
Bensalem Township Fire Rescue Department posted the message below shortly after emergency crews were dispatched to the scene.
TRAFFIC ALERT
Rt 1 South is currently SHUT DOWN between Rockhill Dr and Street Rd.
Please avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
Expect delays and heavy congestion in surrounding areas.

The vehicle had been experiencing mechanical difficulties prior to stopping on the highway. The Honda stopped in the #2 Southbound Lane of Rt. 1.
Munoz, exited the vehicle. While outside the vehicle, the Honda was struck by an approaching 2022 Kia Seltos. That impact caused the Honda to strike the Philadelphia man. The Honda was then struck again by an approaching 2017 Jeep Cherokee., police said.
This crash is under investigation and at this time, drugs or alcohol do not appear to have played a factor in this crash. Witnesses to the crash can send police anonymous tips on what they saw at this link.
