Bensalem Secure Effort Nets Police 14 Theft Suspects in 1 Week

Bensalem Township Police, having zero tolerance for retail thefts and will arrest anyone detained or identified as committing these types of crimes, made 14 retail arrests in one week using the Bensalem Secure program.

In partnership with the Bensalem Township Economic Development Corporation and local business owners, launched Bensalem Secure recently to curb theft related crimes at township businesses and beyond, officials said.

A summit was held earlier this year to kickoff the business theft reduction initiative. Public Safety Director Bill McVey said at the summit, the three essentials of the program are “Partnerships, Prevention, and Prosecution” to reduce the rate of retail theft in our Township.  The summit addressed retail theft trends, case studies, best practices, legal guidance, and technological capabilities.

Bensalem Secure is a multifaceted approach to reducing retail theft in the township and beyond.  Police will post a list of suspects arrested for retail theft and related offenses in Bensalem weekly. The approach has a Fusus cloud network camera program to enable businesses and organizations to collaborate more closely with police,  toll-free number for employees to report, anonymously if chosen,  internal and external theft, free posters and decals to warn would-be thieves of the protection from and the prosecution of theft.

Established in 1988 by Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo, the Bensalem Economic Development Corporation comprises business and community leaders who volunteer their time and skills to foster strategic economic development opportunities in Bensalem.
