A malfunctioning air conditioning unit at Lower Bucks Hospital led to a intense and swift response by Bristol area first responders Monday evening.

Reports on social media called the incident a fire in the boiler room of the community based hospital.

Third District Fire Chief Howard McGoldrick said, “no fire” at the hospital “just a malfunctioning air handler.”

McGoldrick
went on to further explain the intense response by first responders saying its “a big assignment strictly because of the hazard,” of an actual fire existing.

Fire crews from  Croydon and Newportville, Bristol Consolidated,  Goodwill Hose Co No 3 Edgely Fire Co, and Levittown #2 were dispatched along with police from Bristol Borough and Bristol Township.

The incident was cleared just after 7 p.m. McGoldrick said.

If there was an actual fire, the fire chief said, we would need a lot of fire personnel on scene and quickly.
