A Tuesday afternoon house fire in Bensalem is under investigation after it took the life of the homeowner and two pets.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 1:52 PM, Bensalem Fire Rescue, members of the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department, and Bensalem Police responded to the 3000 block of Gilbert Drive for the report of a house fire, public safety officials said.

Upon arrival, firefighters did not see smoke or fire, coming from the home but noticed dark soot on the windows’ interiors, officials said,

Firefighters made entry through the front door and found the resident, Allan Schoppy, 77, deceased in a chair in the living room.

A pet dog and cat were also found deceased inside the home, fire officials said.

Fire investigators determined that the fire inside the home had self-extinguished before they arrived and appeared to have happened sometime overnight.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it does not appear suspicious.
