A man charged with the July shooting death of another man at a Bensalem apartment complex was ordered to stand trial earlier this week by a district judge.
At preliminary hearing Wednesday at the Bucks County Justice Center District Judge Michel Gallagher ruled that Abel Mendoza-Ramirez will be held for trial for the shooting death of Jose Miguel Tenorio-Ruiz, 40, at the Bucks Meadows Apartment Complex on Knights Road in July after hearing testimony from three law enforcement officers and a witness to the shooting, said District Attorney’s office Spokesman Manuel Gamiz.
According to police, Miguel Tenorio Ruiz , and Mendoza Ramirez, were involved in a physical altercation at the apartment complex of which Tenorio Ruiz lived at. Tenorio-Ruiz twice knocked Mendoza-Ramirez to the ground. After the second time, Mendoza-Ramirez went back to his work van, returned and stood right in front of Tenorio-Ruiz, said police in court records.
Following the altercation, Mendoza Ramirez walked back to his vehicle, which was parked in the rear parking lot of building 7. Mendoza Ramirez returned with a green–handled semi–automatic pistol in his waistband. Mendoza Ramirez approached Tenorio Ruiz, and the two exchanged words. Mendoza Ramirez removed the firearm from his waistband and fired two (2) rounds into the ground by Tenorio Ruiz. Tenorio Ruiz moved towards Mendoza Ramirez and attempted to take the firearm away from him. Mendoza Ramirez fired, shooting Tenorio Ruiz in the torso, court records allege.
Among the charges against Mendoza-Ramirez are criminal homicide, first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and possession of an instrument of crime. Deputy District Attorney Carrie Worton added charges of non-possession of firearms and possession of firearms without a license on Wednesday, prosecutors said.
Police located Tenorio-Ruiz with an apparent torso gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated by the officers until EMS arrived. His death occurred shortly after he was taken to the hospital. Prior to police arrival, the shooter fled. Mendoza-Ramirez, a resident of Bucks Meadows Apartments, was identified by witnesses as the shooter, said police.
Mendoza-Ramirez will be formally arraigned on September 27, at the Court of Common Pleas in Doylestown.
