Fire Chief: Drone Instrumental with Putting Out Fire at Nature Center

Gratitude was the message conveyed Tuesday morning from Silver Lake Nature Center officials to the dozens of first responders who knocked back a brush fire at one of Buck Counties jewels, Saturday afternoon.
Third District Fire Chief Howard McGoldrick said no one was injured nor were any buildings or structures damaged during the fire that was dispatched just after 12:30 pm.
He said the dispatch was originally as a brush fire near 2nd Avenue and Route 13 in Bristol Borough but when Bristol Consolidated Fire Company arrived on scene the fire was found to be on the Bristol Township side of the borderline.
45 firefighters from Third District Volunteer Fire Company; the Bristol Consolidated Fire Station 50; the Croydon Volunteer Fire Company; Edgely Fire Company, Union Fire Company, Newport Fire Company, and Goodwill, Hose, Hook, and Ladder, “saved the forest” SLNC officials said.

An important tool in putting the fire out, McGoldrick said, was the use of the Croydon Fire Companies recently acquired drone.
“We used the drone to spot fires we couldn’t see from the ground. It ended up being a very valuable tool on this call,” the Third District Fire Chief said (see drone footage below).
The fire burned up about 7.3 acres of brush and grass, before crews were able to place it, he said.
In addition to the 45 firefighters, McGoldrick said there were three field trucks form the County Park Rangers and SLNC, plus four TAC trucks, and three pumpers that eventually doused the flames.
The Falls Township Fire Company covered the station, public safety officials said.
SLNC & the Bucks County Dept. of Parks & Recreation extends a huge thanks -beyond words- to ALL of the Firefighters who worked so hard to safely put the fire out that we had in the Forest at SL Park, along the “Silver Lake Trail” on Saturday.
