State Representatives Kristin Marcell and Joe Hogan, both Republicans introduced House Resolution 215 to recognize a “Fire Prevention Week ( October 8-14,)” in this state last month.

.Marcel and Hogan said October 8-14,  Fire Prevention Week™ is an opportunity to raise awareness and educate people about fire safety and prevention in their homes and communities. It also acknowledges the commendable service of all first responders, firefighters, and fire service agencies in Pennsylvania. Please join us in supporting awareness of fire safety in Pennsylvania.

The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week™, as chosen by the National Fire Protection Association®, was “Cooking safety starts with you. Pay attention to fire prevention™”. It serves as a reminder to exercise caution when cooking and prevent kitchen fires. It also provides guidance on how to inspect our kitchens for fire hazards and adopt safe cooking practices.

The measure has bipartisan support and was referred to the House Veterans Affairs And Emergency Preparedness committee where it received a unanimous vote of approval.

The full House has yet to take up the measure.
