PECO is warning customers to be on the lookout for scammer using spoofing apps.

According to a release, the power company says customers in the Central Bucks area have been contacted by the scammers who tell customers they’re electric and or gas will be shut off if payment is not made immediately.

The company says the scammers use tactics such as “spoofing” to manipulate the Caller ID phone number displayed on your phone so that it appears to be a PECO phone number. PECO will never demand immediate payment, nor will we ever require one specific form of payment, such as a prepaid card or digital currency.

Do not pay on-site for services, PECO employees will never ask for or demand cash payments or personal banking information in-person.

You should never provide anyone access to your home who claims to be from PECO, or a contractor working for PECO, unless the person has proper identification. For more information on payment scams and what you can do to keep your information safe, visit peco.com/scams.
