Philly Man Pepper Sprays Victim During Late Night Robbery at Comfort Inn in Bensalem, Jailed Hours Later as LPR’s Once Again Help Police Find Suspect

A Phiadelphia is in jail  Wednesday morning  after he was arrested for a brazen robbery 0f woman at a  Bensalem hotel Saturday pepper spraying the victim.

According to Bensalem authorities, on  Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:11pm, police responded to the Comfort Inn, located at 2779 Lincoln Highway in Bensalem Twp a report of a robbery. A female victim said  that while in the parking lot, she was approached by a lighter-skinned male approximately 6′ wearing a hooded sweatshirt.  The male attempted to grab her purse from her and while doing so, sprayed her in the face with pepper spray.  The male successfully took the victim’s purse, which contained personal identification, credit cards, and an unknown amount of United States Currency.  The male then ran towards and entered a white sedan, prior to leaving the scene.

As a result of being pepper sprayed, the victim was transported to a hospital by Bensalem EMS for medical treatment.

Bensalem Police reviewed hotel surveillance footage, which captured the suspect entering the driver seat of a white Chrysler 300, fleeing the scene.  Officers reviewed nearby Automatic License Plate Readers, which captured the license plate for the white Chrysler 300. The  vehicle captured on ALPR cameras and the vehicle captured on hotel surveillance cameras has the same white hard hat on the rear seat shelf.

Bensalem Police discovered the Chrysler 300 is registered to Horace Clay. The vehicle was entered into NCIC as a Felony vehicle.

A short time later, police said in court recods the vehicle was stopped by the Yeadon Borough Police Department in Delaware County. Clay was identifed as the operator of the vehicle and he was taken into custody.

Clay was interviewed by police and he admitted to taking the victim’s purse and pepper spraying her during the altercation. A canister of pepper spray was also recovered from  Clay’s vehicle. The 44 year-old male from Philadelphia, was charged with robbery, simple assault and theft. He was arraigned by District Justice Marriot and bail was set at 10% of $25,000 and he was remanded to Bucks County Prison.

LPR’s proved to be instrumental in jailing two susepects who allegely committted four hold ups in Lower Bucks recently.
