Complaints about unwanted solicitors are an annoyance every municipality deals with and the issue came up last week’s Bristol Borough Council meeting.
Officials said at last week’s meeting complaints came in about potential illegal solicitors within Bristol’s boundaries.
Chief of Police Joe Moors said if an apparent solicitor comes to your door or home, residents can ask to see the permit issued by the borough to verify they are approved.
They have to show you a green card issued as proof of solicitation approval, Moors said, if asked.
If they don’t show that card, or say they don’t have it, he said, please call the police non-emergency number dispatcher (215) 788-7811 and officers will escort the individual (s) out of Bristol.
Moors said there is an application process organizations go through before they are approved to canvas in Bristol Borough which includes a through background check and his approval before solicitors are approved.
According to Borough officials as of last week’s meeting no organizations are approved or permitted to solicit within the boundaries of Bristol.
