Since its formation almost four 1/2 years ago, the Bristol Borough Fire Association (BBFA) has said, in many ways it honors the role and history of the four fire companies it is comprised of — while simultaneously protecting the future of fire services in the borough for years to come.
On Monday, they revealed imagery of that commitment in image form by revealing the associations commemorative patch; which symbolically reflects the challenges the association has faced also.

The patch reveal is quite possibly a sign, related to an announcement about the new centralized fire station to be constructed, is on the horizon
BBFA President Steve Reeves said the idea and creation of the commemorative patch was a year in the making, coming to fruition in idea form as a result of seeking input from younger members of the association.

Reeves has championed a youth movement in Bristol’s fire services.
“We specifically wanted our younger members involved because they represent the future of the organization, and their input and buy-in were important to us.”
It was only last week that the BBFA announced the launch of its fall youth cadet program for kids in grades 7 through 12

The focal point of the patch is the Bristol Wharf and the Delaware River.
From Bristol’s earliest years, Reeves explained, as a port town, the Wharf and river have been the heartbeat of the community. They remain a place where residents come together to meet, celebrate and enjoy everything Bristol has to offer.
The words “Bristol Borough Fire Department” are also symbolic, he said.
“They represent the direction we are heading as we continue working to bring the four fire companies together as one organization.”
The centerpoint of the patch, the number 500, Reeves explained, has special meaning to our members because it represents all four companies—Stations 25, 50, 51 and 52.
Explaining further, Reeves said, on its face, it may appear to be about something as simple as a station designation, but it is also representative of the many external obstacles we have encountered throughout our effort to unite four independent fire companies as one Bristol Borough Fire Department.

“We originally identified Station 54 as a number that would align with the Bucks County dispatch numbering system. It kept us within the 50 series, while the number four represented the four Bristol Borough fire companies. However, another Bucks County fire company possessed that number despite not using it on any apparatus or box cards for many years.”
Reeves said the focus became 500 and again it was discovered that number is being used but he said he’s fairly confident that the future centralized station and apparatus can eventually be numbered in a way that reflects the 500 designation and what it means to our members and myself.
“Resilience.”
Reeves said of right now, the association does not have an outlet for residents to purchase the patch.
“We have been working with Fields Printwear on apparel that will be provided at no cost to the students participating in our Fire Cadet and Junior Firefighter programs.”
