Bristol Borough Chief of Police, Steve Henry will be retiring this fall.

In an e-mail exchange with Lower Bucks Source Wednesday morning, Henry confirmed reports about his plans to retire.

Multiple sources.on Tuesday night, prior to Henry’s confirmation alerted Lower Bucks Source to the “surprise” announcement.

This was a personal decision between my family and I, Henry this morning.

“After 38 years of being a police officer I have decided to retire from law enforcement. I will however continue to be involved in the profession, working with a law enforcement training group based out of NJ. I will be leaving my current position in November,” the police chief said.

Henry, who is married and has three children, was hired by Bristol in April of 2016 on a one-year contract.

Prior to being hired by the Borough, Henry was a captain with the Toms River Police Department and had served in law enforcement for more than three decades.

Henry’s leadership of the department and its officers has been under scrutiny with one former officer, Justin Gross, claiming the chief and supervisors discriminated against him when trying to come back to work from a disability.

Gross has filed two lawsuits against the borough and its officials for discrimination and wrongful termination. Both cases are still active in federal and county court systems currently.

Henry, who replaced former Police Chief Arnold Porter, said he had a great experience working in the Borough

Now the question becomes who will replace him.
