Motorist Flees After Striking Bicyclist Outside of Dollar General in Bristol Borough

A person riding an electric bicycle was struck by a vehicle leaving a discount store, Friday evening, on Route 13 and 2nd avenue in Bristol Borough and apparently fled the area after checking the rider.

According to witnesses on scene, a male riding an electric bike on the sidewalk heading south towards Dollar General, 2000 block of Bristol Pike, when a vehicle pulled out of the store’s parking lot after only checking one direction. The bicyclist got thrown to the middle of the road and he tried to get up so other cars would not hit him, witnesses said. 

One witness said, they immediately called the police and an ambulance, but the cyclist refused treatment.  The striking motorist is described as a woman, about 5 ft 5, and long brown hair pulled back into a ponytail. According to a witness, the motorist was clearly upset. The witness asked her to move her car to the side of the road or into the lot. The other witness was trying to retrieve the bike from the street. Although the motorist got back inside the vehicle and fled, the witnesses recorded the license plate number.  

Police arrived and went inside Dollar General to for video surveillance footage.  The ambulance left because the cyclist refused treatment even though he was holding his left ribs and hip.

The witness has made an appeal on Facebook to the unknown motorist to report herself to the police.

Bristol Borough, shortly after a mother was struck with a infant child in a stroller, put up new traffic and safety lights and signage at the intersection of 2nd Ave and Rt 13.

Borough Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment on whether or not an investigation was launched into the striking motorist’s identity Saturday.
